Meet the maven

Alexis Smith

I am a passionate makeup artist and the creative force behind Maven Makeup located in Wilmington, North Carolina.

My love for makeup began during my childhood, as I reveled in the vibrant colors and intriguing formulas found in my mom's makeup bag. This early fascination only grew stronger with time, and by the ripe age of 13, I was trusted enough by one of my mom’s friends to do her bridal makeup! In high school, I became the go-to girl for my friends’ hair and makeup.

I further refined my skills at the Von Lee International School of Esthetics in Baltimore, MD, in 2015. After, I apprenticed under the esteemed DC/MD/NoVA makeup artist, Lori Nansi, contributing to stellar bridal looks. Since then, my portfolio has blossomed, showcasing work from the Mrs. Maryland pageant in 2016, prom glam, boudoir photoshoots, to professional headshots.

As an artist, I view every face as a unique canvas awaiting transformation. While my specialty lies in creating ethereal and natural glam aesthetics, I find equal delight in creating bold, challenging looks. Art in all its forms captivates me, which is evident in my passion for painting and crafting - another reflection of my deep-rooted love for creativity.

I make it my mission to provide a safe and inclusive space for all of my clients. My goal is that every person leaves feeling empowered, beautiful, and confident in their own skin.

You may have noticed the rose illustration in my logo. The rose signifies 65 roses, also known as Cystic Fibrosis (CF). I was diagnosed with the pancreatic disease as an infant and my journey has shaped me into the warrior I am today. Cystic Fibrosis is quite an ugly disease. On my worst days, I like to put on a full face of makeup. It makes me feel a little more like the powerful woman that I know I am.

As a token of my gratitude for your selfless service, I’m delighted to offer a 10% discount to all veterans, healthcare workers, and first responders. I appreciate all you do!
